Rest Chair

The chair emerges from a collaboration between Studio Maximilian Beck, working with experimental large-scale glass casting, and Obscure Objects, specialising in metal fabrication. Combining laser-cut stainless steel with imperfect, moulded glass, the piece reflects a shared commitment to self taught experimental craft. Exchange and learning between both practices shaped the process, embracing material limitations as creative potential.

A bold, ice-like glass seat rests on a minimal stainless steel frame. Visible screws articulate the steel structure, while the glass is held primarily by its own weight, creating a precise tension between solidity and lightness. The work situates itself between design and sculpture, foregrounding process, material honesty, and structural clarity.
